Oprah Winfrey has discussed how her weight-loss medicine serves as a management tool. She went on to say, “I’m absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself.”

Oprah Winfrey is discussing her bodily makeover.

The iconic television presenter recently revealed her weight-loss strategy, which includes taking a weight-loss medicine that she claims has made her feel good from the inside out.

“I now use it as I feel I need it, as a tool to manage not yo-yoing,” she told People in a December 13 interview, declining to divulge the medicine she’s been using. “The fact that there’s a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for.”

Oprah went on to say, “I’m absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself.”

Of course, the producer of The Color Purple hasn’t entirely depended on weight-loss drugs to keep her figure in check. She’s stepped up her health and fitness programs in the previous two years.

“After knee surgery, I started hiking and setting new distance goals each week,” she said. “I could eventually hike three to five miles every day and a 10-mile straight-up hike on weekends.”

The 69-year-old also altered her dietary habits.

“I eat my last meal at 4 o’clock, drink a gallon of water a day, and use the WeightWatchers principles of counting points,” she went on to say. “I was aware of [weight-loss] medications, but I felt I needed to demonstrate that I had the willpower to do it.” That is no longer the case.”

If anything, Oprah—who has been open about her weight swings over the years—explained that she’s in the finest physical and mental form of her life.

“I felt stronger, more fit and more alive than I’d felt in years,” she told me. “I know everyone thought I was going to the Olympics, but I worked so hard.” I know it doesn’t work for me if I’m not also working out and staying on top of everything else.”

She went on to say, “It was a second shot for me to live a more vital and vibrant life.”
