Celine Dion to Debut Documentary Against Rare Stiff Person Syndrome

Celine Dion with new documentary

In the new documentary ‘I Am: Celine Dion’, the Grammy winner opens openly about her continuing fight with Stiff Person Syndrome.

“This last couple of years has been such a challenge for me,” Celine stated in a press release issued on Jan. 30, “the journey from discovering my condition to learning how to live with and manage it, but not to let it define me.”

“As the road to resuming my performing career continues, I have realized how much I have missed it, being able to see my fans,” the 55-year-old said in a statement. “During this absence, I decided I wanted to document this part of my life, to try to raise awareness of this little-known condition, to help others who share this diagnosis.”

The Irene Taylor-directed film chronicles the “My Heart Will Go On” singer’s battle with the severe ailment, which she first revealed in December 2022, as she attempts to reconcile her profession with her deteriorating health.

However, in addition to bringing insight into her life with Stiff Person Syndrome, the documentary, which was bought by Amazon MGM Studios but has yet to be released, examines Celine’s creative process as well as providing rare access into her personal life.

The documentary’s revelation comes only one month after Celine’s sister, Claudette Dion, provided a tragic update on her health, revealing that the “Taking Chances” singer no longer has control over some body movements.

“She doesn’t have control over her muscles,” Claudette said to 7 Jours in December. “It tears my heart that she has always been disciplined. “She has always worked hard.”

She stated, “It is true that in both our and her ambitions, the aim is to return to the stage. In what capacity? I do not know.”

Celine revealed in May that she was formally canceling her Courage World Tour owing to her ailment, and she has since focused on her health and spending quality time with kids René-Charles, 22, and twins Nelson and Eddy, 13, whom she has with her late husband René Angélil. Because Celine has been inspired by the force of her family’s love and her work with an excellent team of physicians.

“And I have hope,” she said on Instagram in December 2022, “that I am on the road to recovery.”
