As she Fights Stiff-Person Syndrome Battle, Celine Dion Loses Control of Her Muscles

Celine Dion

Celine Dion’s health is worsening.

According to her sister Claudette Dion, the singer can no longer regulate some body motions one year after being diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome.

“She doesn’t have control over her muscles,” Claudette said via translation from French to 7 Jours. “It tears my heart since she has always been disciplined. She’s always been a diligent worker. ‘You’re going to do it well, you’re going to do it correctly,’ our mother often assured her.

“It’s true that in both our dreams and hers, the goal is to return to the stage,” she said. What is your role? “I’m not sure.”

Celine canceled her Courage World Tour in May because of a rare neurological disease that causes severe muscular spasms and stiffness.

“I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again,” the 55-year-old said at the time on Instagram. “I’m working hard to regain my strength, but touring can be difficult even when you’re at your peak.” It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the events, and as much as it pains me, it’s better that we cancel everything now until I’m truly ready to return to the stage.”

According to Claudette, their sister Linda has been living with Celine in the Las Vegas area while receiving treatment from stiff-person syndrome specialists.

Despite her concentration on relaxation, the Grammy winner was recently able to spend meaningful time with her 22-year-old son René-Charles and 13-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy, whom she shares with her late husband René Angélil. Celine and her boys went to the rink on October 30 to witness the Montreal Canadiens take on the Vegas Golden Knights.

Celine Dion was seen meeting with coach Martin St. Louis and posing for a group shot in video footage shared online.

“It’s such an honor to meet you,” she said in French translation. “It was an incredible night.”
