Following the death of co-star Angus Cloud, Sydney Sweeney anticipates an emotional return to the Euphoria set.
“I don’t think it’ll truly feel real or hit me until we’re filming, and I won’t see Angus on set,” the actress, 26, stated on the cover of Glamour UK on Tuesday, December 19.
Sydney Sweeney commended her coworkers for assisting her in grieving Angus Cloud’s death. “[My costars and I] were constantly on the phone with each other crying, because it was just such a shock,” she went on to say.”[At least] when we are filming, all of our eyes are on each other, and we’re there for each other, just in a different way than we’re able to when we’re all in very separate places in the world.”
She went on to say, “It’s really interesting when someone passes away in our industry because they’re still alive in so many forms.”
Cloud portrayed drug dealer Fezco in the 2019 drama Euphoria. Season 3 of the successful HBO series will begin filming in 2024 and will premiere in 2025.
Cloud died on July 31 at the age of 25 as a result of an accidental overdose.
“We had to say goodbye to an incredible human today with a heavy heart.” “Angus was special to all of us in so many ways as an artist, a friend, a brother, and a son,” his family said in a statement. “He buried his father last week and struggled greatly with this loss.” The only solace we have is that Angus has been reunited with his father, who was his best friend.”
The message went on to pay tribute to Cloud’s legacy. “Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence,” the members of his family said. “We hope the world remembers him for his sense of humour, laughter, and love for all.” We want privacy at this time since we are still grieving the death of our loved one.”
Lisa Cloud, Angus’ mother, later disputed claims that her son committed suicide. The Alameda County Coroner confirmed in September that Angus died of acute intoxication. At the time of his death, he had cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and benzodiazepines in his system.
Angus was open about his struggles with mental health and addiction before his death. As the actor battled to stay sober, Euphoria creator Sam Levinson remembers making repeated attempts to assist him.
“When I looked him in the eyes, I knew he wasn’t doing well,” Levinson, 38, told People in September about assisting Angus in entering a 30-day in-patient program. “At the same time, I’ve been in circumstances where you’re trying to get someone clean before. And I simply told him, ‘I love working with you, we’ve got this fantastic season planned, but I need you to stay clean because I need to be able to rely on you.'”
Levinson was desperate to help Angus overcome his addiction. “I could always feel that he didn’t want [sobriety] as much as we all wanted it for him,” the executive producer observed. “This is where it gets tricky because the entire world may want it for you.” But he was not interested. It’s just the destructive aspect of addiction, and it trumps everything else. But you can’t abandon them. I wasn’t about to let anyone abandon him.”
