Carrie Underwood has a well-known visage throughout the world, but she previously had a “freak” accident that left her injured.
The country music artist required 40-50 stitches above her lip following an incident that she has recently revealed.
Carrie collapsed while walking her dogs at home in November 2017, breaking her wrist and injuring her face severely.
She was transported to the hospital for urgent care and later cautioned admirers that she “might look a bit different.”
Carrie admitted that her confidence was shaken, and she backed away from the platform and the spotlight because she couldn’t sing.
“I had wanted to be in the studio sooner than I was, actually recording these songs, but I had stitches inside my mouth, outside my mouth,” she said in an interview with Vulture. “It was physically impossible.”
Carrie explained the specific circumstances of the event on The Bobby Bones podcast: “I was bringing the dogs out and I simply stumbled. There was just one step, and I did not let go of the leashes. Priorities!
“So that explains why my left hand is OK. But I went to catch myself, and I just missed a step. If I’d fallen anyplace else, I would have been alright. But one step ruined everything.”
She also needed wrist surgery few days following her incident. At the time, she told supporters on social media, “I just wanted to let everyone know that I’m doing fine. Had surgery on my wrist yesterday, and everything went smoothly.
“I’m so thankful for the doctors, nurses, family & friends who’ve been taking such great care of me.”
There was rumor that Carrie had undergone plastic surgery, which was responsible for her scars. However, she clarified the comments in an interview with Redbook, saying, “I’m on some magazine every other week for something ridiculous. It’s a shame, since the reality is as interesting.
She went on to say, “I wish I’d had some fantastic plastic surgery to make this appear better. Life is full of ups and downs, and I may have experienced more downs than ups last year,” she explained.
Carrie spent several months away from the limelight while she healed. Although her scar is scarcely noticeable today, the mother of two told Today’s Hoda Kotb that she had no idea how horrible the outcome would be.
“In the beginning, I had no idea how things would turn out. It just wasn’t nice,” she explained, adding, “I have a devoted staff of pros who can spackle, paint, and paste.” Every day, I feel a bit more normal.”
