David Oyelowo Reveals How His Dad Made a Big Impact on His Diet

David Oyelowo

David Oyelowo is a well-known actor, director, and producer. The Silo, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, and Role Play actor has had a busy few years, appearing in some of the most thrilling television series available. That’s not to mention his major role as Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma in 2014, which got a Best Picture nomination at the 2015 Oscars. To keep motivated for all of those critically praised performances, you’ll undoubtedly need a committed program. To reveal his secrets to success, Oyelowo invited Men’s Health into his house to demonstrate his training regimen and nutrition in a new episode of Gym & Fridge.

First and foremost, Oyelowo’s refrigerator is always stocked with eggs, blueberries, and oat milk. He claims his family attempted to eat properly, but it was difficult with four children. Sugar is almost forbidden in the house, but that doesn’t stop his children from finding methods to smuggle it in. “Oh my gosh,” he finally says. “Someone has hidden the whipped topping.” “This is leftover from Christmas.”

David Oyelowo claims that his father’s colon cancer diagnosis has had a significant impact on his diet. “He was told to stop eating meat,” he said. “And in solidarity with him we all stopped eating meat.” Oyelowo is now a pescatarian and feels healthier than ever.

Oyelowo works out every weekday, arriving at the gym at 5:30 a.m. “Working out for me, it clears my mind, keeps my body strong, and I think it gives you longevity,” he said.

He used to focus on bulking up, but as he’s gotten older, he’s realized he’d rather stay thin and flexible. And, while you may assume it’s difficult for an actor to get a workout while on site, Oyelowo doesn’t give up. “Anywhere I go, I will find a gym,” he said. “I can’t be without.”
