In an interview that took place in January 2024 on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace, Drew Carey discussed his struggle with depression that lasted for many years and ultimately led to him attempting suicide when he was 18 years old and in his early 20s.
In his explanation, Carey stated, “I believe the suicide attempts were calls for help,” and he went on to say that the initial attempt took place during a fraternity reception. “Everyone seemed to be having a nice time, and that made me so angry. I did recall that. I can still vividly recall going down the stairs and seeing everyone drinking, and my first thought was, “What the hell are they so happy about?”
The Price is Right host went on to say he was “angry” the partygoers “were so happy.”
I just became dissatisfied with my existence and pondered, “Who is going to miss me?” It was accepted by Carey. Still, I have a great deal of that. Something along the lines of “who’s going to miss me? Thoughts.” My thoughts wander to myself quite frequently. In the event that I pass away, I intend to have my corpse cremated. There will be no funeral and nothing linked to it, including all of my souvenirs and other items. The easiest approach to dispose of them is to just burn them. Who cares, by the way?
However, despite the fact that he is in a much better position today as a result of his time spent in boot camp and on stand-up comedy, Carey admitted that he still experiences depression “often.”
What he stated at the time was, “But it’s not as bad.” “I mean, just because you are a star and you have a lot of money does not mean that you are immune to having terrible days or that you are not getting horrible things happen to you. Everyone is a person.”
