Kelly Clarkson and her sudden weight reduction was prompted by a pre-diabetic warning diagnosis from her doctor.
“They informed me I was pre-diabetic. That was exactly what occurred. I wasn’t astonished. I was a little overweight, so I wasn’t surprised,” the Grammy winner admitted on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” earlier this week.
“But they said, ‘You’re pre-diabetic.’ “You’re right on the borderline,” she said, addressing her guest Kevin James.
“I said, ‘But I’m not there yet.’ And then I waited two years before moving in, and I was like, ‘OK, I’ll do something about it.'”
Earlier this month, the 41-year-old singer disclosed how she lost weight, amid suspicion that she used weight-loss medicines such as Ozempic.
“I eat a good variety. “I lost weight because I’ve been listening to my doctor,” she told People, confessing that she “didn’t” for “a couple years.”
“And 90 percent of the time, I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway,” Clarkson said about Dr. Steven R. Gundry’s “Plant Paradox Diet.”
“I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat — sorry, vegetarians in the world!” She quipped, making it clear that she “still splurge[s]” on sweets on occasion.
The “American Idol” star also revealed that moving to Manhattan after her divorce from Brandon Blackstock was finalized in March 2022 has allowed her to be more active, as “walking in the city is quite the workout.”
“And I’m really into infrared saunas right now,” she said. “And I just got a cold plunge because everybody wore me down.”
Clarkson, who has a 9-year-old daughter River Rose and a 7-year-old son Remington “Remy” Alexander with her ex-husband, 47, has openly discussed her changing weight throughout the years.
In October 2017, she claimed that she had suicide thoughts when she was at her thinnest, but “no one cared because, aesthetically, [she made] sense.”
The following June, the singer attributed her weight reduction to a diet overhaul that included eating organic and non-GMO foods.
“I did it for this autoimmune disease that I had, and I had a thyroid issue, and now all my levels are back up,” she said at the time.
Clarkson and Jenna Bush Hager became friends last November because they were both “chubby” as youngsters.
“I love losing weight, but here’s the thing,” the former stated during their conversation. “Jeans are so hard when you have a butt and a smaller waist.”
