INGREDIENTS

1 large egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
6 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 pound unsalted butter, melted and cooled
3-1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar, divided

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Beat butter and 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar in a large bowl until smooth, then mix in egg yolk and vanilla. In a separate bowl, whisk flour and baking powder; gradually blend into the butter mixture until crumbly.
2. Shape heaping tablespoons of dough into crescents and place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 12-15 minutes until edges are lightly browned. Cool on wire racks for 15 minutes.
3. Place remaining sugar in a small bowl and toss cookies in it while slightly warm. Cool completely on racks, then toss in sugar again before serving. Store in an airtight container with any remaining confectioners’ sugar.
