Many Are Saddened By Reports That Jason Kelce is Reportedly Retiring

Jason Kelce is allegedly retiring from the NFL. According to ESPN, the Philadelphia Eagles center informed his teammates of his decision to stop his professional football career after their Monday, January 15 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A very upset Kelce declined to talk to media after the game, stating “No guys, not today,” instead informing his teammates in a private locker room session.

Kelce initially sparked suspicion in October 2023 that this season may be his last in the NFL, implying that his attention was moving to achieving new post-NFL career ambitions.

“We took on a lot last year, and it ended up working out really, really well for Travis and I at the end of the season,” said Travis to The NFL Report. “You know, I think that’s a lot, and I think we’ve justified it as a family by saying that this will be over very soon here. If it’s this year, which is quite possible, we want to make sure we’re ready to go when football is over, and with all of these other chances and stuff, we can figure out what we want to do in retirement. On top of that, just enjoy your last moments with the folks you have.”

Lane Johnson, Kelce’s teammate, appeared to confirm Kelce’s retirement when he spoke to media Monday. “I love him. “He’s one of the greatest players in history,” he stated. “The things he can do on the football field athletically — I don’t think we’ll see another one like him for a long time.”

Many Eagles supporters will be disappointed, but not surprised, by the news. Kelce is nearing the conclusion of a one-year deal and was scheduled to become a free agency in March, having spent all 13 seasons of his NFL career with the Philadelphia Eagles. During that period, he won a Super Bowl championship and was a seven-time Pro Bowler and six-time All-Pro.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter verified Kelce’s NFL retirement, and Eagles fans are now reacting to the famous center’s departure.
