Michael Bolton has announced the terrible news that he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had emergency surgery. The 70-year-old musician announced the news to followers on Facebook on Friday, January 5, 2024, stating that he received the news in late 2023 and would now take a vacation from touring to recover at home.
“I’d like to start by wishing everyone a very happy and healthy New Year! I’d also want to explain that 2023 presented me with some unforeseen obstacles. Just before the holidays, I realized I had a brain tumor that required emergency surgery,” the ‘When A Man Loves A Woman’ singer wrote on Facebook.
“Thanks to my fantastic medical team, the procedure was successful. I am currently resting at home, surrounded by my family’s incredible love and support. For the next several months, I’ll be focusing my time and energy to my recuperation, which means I’ll have to take a vacation from touring.
Michael went on to say that “it is always the hardest thing for me to ever disappoint my fans or postpone a show, but have no doubt I am working hard to accelerate my recovery and get back to performing soon” .
“I am really appreciative for all of the love and support you have shown me throughout the years. Know that I am storing your encouraging comments in my heart, and I will provide you with additional updates as soon as possible,” he ended.
Fans quickly expressed their support, with one writing: “Wishing you a swift recovery! I had a brain tumor removed twelve years ago. Listen to your body and rest as needed. I look forward to seeing you on tour again!”
“Take care of yourself. You and your family are all that matters. You’ve shared so much of yourself with others via your music. We are all really appreciative. “Now you must take care of yourself,” said another.
Michael is one of America’s most successful musicians, having sold over 75 million records throughout a nearly five-decade career that includes classics such as When a Man Loves a Woman and Missing You Now.
He rose to prominence in the late 1980s and early 1990s, having begun his career as a heavy metal singer in the 1970s. He collaborated with Diane Warren and Desmond Child and won two Grammy Awards, including one for his cover of ‘When a Man Loves a Woman’.
In an honest interview in March 2018, Michael said that there were times in his life when he wanted to quit up, especially in the beginning of his singing career. “There were a lot of experiences that were promising at the start,” he said. “You reach a point when you don’t want to believe it’s actually occurring, just to be disappointed and sad. Someone’s album is titled Heartbroken and Flat-broken. But this happened repeatedly.
