Isabella Strahan, 19, has spoken up about the ‘tough’ and ‘traumatic’ procedure of collecting her eggs to give her the best chance of having children in the future as she prepares to endure chemotherapy for her rare brain cancer.
Her Good Morning America host father and the USC freshman discussed her health fight on Thursday, after doctors discovered a tumor larger than a golf ball developing in the back of her brain.
Isabella’s doctor, Dr. David Ashley, director of Duke University’s Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center, revealed in a new GMA segment aired on Friday that as she entered the next phase of her treatment for her medulloblastoma, they had to harvest some eggs for ‘fertility preservation.’
Isabella stated that she did not expect to have this talk at the age of 19.
It was absolutely challenging. I won’t lie, the procedure was hard, but I made it through,’ she added.
‘It’s challenging, but you don’t expect something like this at 18, 19. Definitely a shock.
Isabella’s doctor stated that, while the type of tumor is ‘extremely rare,’ with less than 10 instances per year in kids her age, her prognosis is favorable.
‘There are four varieties of medulloblastoma, and Isabella has the WNT subtype,’ Dr Ashley revealed on GMA.
‘Patients have 90 percent or higher survival rates after five years, and the majority are entirely cured,’ he added. ‘With Isabella, I am confident that her prognosis will be fantastic. She is doing fantastically.
Michael expressed his gratitude to the people for their support after hearing Dr Ashley’s diagnosis.
‘As for Isabella, yesterday, it was something for her to share publicly,’ he said on Friday morning. ‘It basically shows she’s lighter and it’s off her chest.’
‘Thank everyone for their love and support; we couldn’t be more grateful,’ the father-of-four said with passion.
‘Thank you to everyone out there. Thank you to everyone present. I couldn’t have asked for a greater family, both at work and at home. So thank you,” the NFL star remarked.
