Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup dry oatmeal
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 1 fl oz cold water
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

Directions

  • Pre-heat oven to 375 °F (180 °C).
  • Combine dry ingredients (oats, salt, baking soda and flour).
  • Cut shortening into dry ingredients.
  • Add water a tablespoon at a time to form a stiff dough.
  • Roll dough onto floured surface until about 1/8" thick and cut into rounds, approximately 2 1/2".
  • Bake on ungreased baking sheet until cakes are golden, about 15-20 minutes.
  • Serve with preserves, butter, honey, cheese or any topping you like!
