Ingredients

  • 2 cups yellow split peas
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped onion
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 8 cups water
  • 1 tsp sea salt

Directions

  • Bring split peas and water to a bowl, strain and rinse.
  • Return peas and 8 cups water to the pot and bring to a bowl once again.
  • Lower heat and simmer for two hours, stirring occasionally. Add water if necessary and to preference. If you like thicker soup, let some of the water simmer off.
  • Add seasonings, chopped onion towards the last 15/20 minutes of cooking.
