Rumer Willis shared advice for anybody suffering with their breastfeeding experience, including why it’s critical to tune out the detractors.
Rumer Willis is getting some motherhood advice out of the way.
The 35-year-old, who delivered her newborn child Louetta in April with boyfriend Derek Richard Thomas, told up about her nursing experience and why she wants to educate other parents.
“I don’t feel ashamed about my breasts or feeding my daughter,” Rumer told E! News’ Francesca Amiker exclusively. “That’s how they eat; that’s how they connect; that’s how they feel safe.” We are the ones who have sexualized breasts as a society. Breasts are physically designed to nourish our offspring.”
This approach has allowed the House Bunny alum to feel secure and at ease nursing her 7-month-old kid wherever.
“I have no problem doing it,” revealed the eldest daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore. “It’s alright if people look at me strangely or judge me. Don’t be embarrassed of your path. It’s such a blessing to be able to feed your child and interact with them. “Are you going to put what other people think of you ahead of your relationship with your child?”
Rumer, who collaborated with Bumpsuit to develop the Lou Blue Baby Carrier, expressed a desire to share her nursing experience because she understands how difficult it is for others to establish a feeling of community.
“There’s so much misinformation that is promoted towards women that they don’t feel empowered,” she said, adding that “there doesn’t seem to be a general container of support for women to continue on their breastfeeding journey.” So it’s critical to be able to talk about it.”
She went on to say, “If we remove all of the judgments and negativity, and show up with more compassion, then a lot of stuff would be drastically different.”
And, while Rumer may be imparting wisdom, she is also learning crucial parenthood lessons.
“This has been such an experience from the moment I got pregnant til now,” she went on to say. “It’s been such a test of surrender and self-confidence.” Everyone will advise you—grandparents, friends, sisters, doctors—but the fact is that you must trust yourself.”
Of course, Rumer isn’t the only star who has openly discussed her nursing experience. Continue reading to find out what other A-listers have to say about guidance.
Keke Palmer
“I think my breastfeeding journey was also very empowering because it was so difficult,” Keke said in an August 21 interview with Essence. “And I wanted to give up at so many different points, but I just kept pushing myself and kept trying to figure it out.”
She went on to say, “The relationship I had with my son during that process empowered me to get back up and do things for myself again.”

The Game star, who has a 12-year-old son Cree and a 5-year-old daughter Cairo with ex-husband Cory Hardrict, opened up about her nursing issues. “When I had Cree, I was struggling to breastfeed him,” she said on Instagram on August 10. I could only breastfeed for three months before having to resort to formula. And the second time, I discovered that I could nurse Cairo for 13 months.”
“However, the journey was difficult…if you are struggling with breastfeeding, I want you to know that it is perfectly fine to feed your children formula.” All that counts is that your children are nourished, loved, happy, and supported.”
