Ramen and chicken Alfredo are two dinners that I still consume today, no matter how “played out” or “basic” they appear to be on social media. Ramen restaurants are cropping up on practically every corner in my city, and Alfredo is celebrated as a low-effort dish that a spouse prepares when they are upset at you but still love you. Regardless of the reputations both recipes have, I keep them both in my regular rotation of comfort foods.
Individually, they are two outstanding standout dishes; yet, when combined, might they be an unstoppable force? The solution is unknown, but the guy who devised the strategy for this dish has been a member of two historically significant duos—the one and only Shaquille O’Neal. In his recipe for Instant Smack Ramen Chicken Alfredo, the NBA great and cultural icon demonstrates how he transforms a standard bag of ramen into a flavorful fusion. Here is what occurred when I tried it at home.
To prepare this dish, you will need evaporated milk, 2% milk, unsalted butter, chicken-flavored ramen noodles, kosher salt, garlic powder, onion powder, ground pepper, hot sauce (preferably Tobasco or Crystal), frozen chopped broccoli, shredded rotisserie chicken, Parmesan cheese, and optional egg yolks.
Begin by mixing together the two milks, butter, spicy sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and two packs of ramen seasoning in a large saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a boil and whisk with a wooden spoon or spatula. It is critical to constantly whisk the mixture since evaporated milk scorches rapidly and the liquid might quickly boil over.
Once the sauce begins to boil, add all of the ramen noodles and stir for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the broccoli, stir for another minute, and then remove from the heat.
Finally, add the rotisserie chicken and Parmesan cheese, and let the noodles sit for 2 minutes. If you want a thicker sauce, rapidly combine the egg yolks before letting the noodles rest.
