L.A. — Los Angeles Shohei Ohtani will be shown to the public for the first time when the Los Angeles Dodgers hold a press conference. Last weekend, the two-time American League Most Valuable Player reached an agreement on a record-setting seven hundred million dollar, ten-year contract.
During an outdoor press conference that will take place in the afternoon at Dodger Stadium’s Centerfield Plaza, Ohtani, who is 29 years old, will address the media.
After spending six years with the Los Angeles Angels, Ohtani became a free agency and signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in a deal that was revealed on Monday night. Ohtani is a groundbreaking two-way superstar who can play both as a hitter and as a pitcher.
Fans on both sides of the Pacific Ocean have flocked to the secondary market to purchase Dodgers goods and tickets as a result of Ohtani’s relocation from Anaheim to Hollywood. In preparation for the 2019 season, the squad has not yet begun selling tickets for individual games.
Ohtani will only get $20 million of his contract over the next ten years, with $680 million payable from 2034 to 2043. This atypical structure provides the organization with additional flexibility in terms of payroll in the upcoming seasons.
According to information that was received by The Associated Press, Ohtani’s contract stipulates that he would get yearly payments of eighty million dollars. There is no interest charged on the $68 million that is delayed from each year’s salary, and it is payable in equal increments on July 1 of each year from 2034 until 1943.
