Toby Keith, a prominent country music performer, passed away at the age of 62, and tributes have flooded in.
According to a statement on his Instagram and website, Toby Keith died peacefully yesterday night, February 5th, surrounded by his family. He fought his battle with grace and bravery. “Please respect his family’s privacy at this time.”
The country musician died in 2022 after being diagnosed with stomach cancer, which he characterized as a “little bit of a roller coaster.” You have excellent days, but you’re up and down.
The singer has performed for three American presidents: George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump. He was arguably most known for his patriotic music, with hits like ‘Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue’ and ‘Red Solo Cup’. Throughout his career, he sold over 40 million albums.
He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Tricia Lucus, and his three daughters, Shelley Covel Rowland, singer Krystal Keith, and son Stelen. He also had four grandkids.

Carrie Underwood also expressed her sympathies on Instagram, writing, “Saddle up the horses, Jesus, ’cause a true blue COWBOY just made his way up to heaven!!!” Introduce him to all of the Okies, and sign him up for choir! We’ll miss you, Toby, but my heart knows you’re standing in the presence of our King right now!! “I will see you again someday, friend.”
In the comments section beneath the Instagram announcement, singer Randy Houser wrote, “God bless you and your family. “It’s difficult to imagine America without Toby Keith.”
Blake Shelton also posted on Instagram Stories, saying, “Even though I’ve known about your fight for a few months, I never envisioned this day. Anyone who knew you understands what I mean. You were the hardest man I’d ever met.
“Thank you, brother, for being a friend, hero, and inspiration to me. There’ll never be another Toby Keith.
Dolly Parton issued a personal comment shortly after, saying, “It’s always difficult when we lose our brothers and sisters in country music. Toby Keith was an all-around great. He will be missed, but his music and legacy will endure.
Luke Bryan subsequently posted a photo of himself with the late singer on Instagram, writing, “Just arriving at American Idol and seeing the sad news in our country community.” A legendary artist and terrific man. Your melodies make every area feel like a party.”
Stephen Baldwin also paid tribute to the country artist, saying, “Wow this announcement has totally taken my breath away. I’ve been praying for Toby and it is truly wonderful to know he is finally home. Praise Jesus.”
Actor Garrett Hedlund responded with a crown emoji, a reference to one of country music’s ‘kings’.
