Keisha Nash Whitaker, who was married to Forest Whitaker for 22 years before their divorce in 2018, died just before midnight on December 6 at the age of 51. Authorities have now revealed the reason of her death.
According to her death certificate, the model died of alcoholic liver illness. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, the illness is caused by excessive alcohol use, which can severely damage the liver.
Another key problem that led to Keisha’s death, according to the statement, was acute renal failure. According to the National Kidney Foundation website, a sudden episode of kidney failure creates “a buildup of waste products in your blood and makes it difficult for your kidneys to keep the right balance of fluid in your body.”
True Whitaker, Keisha and Forest’s daughter, revealed her death on social media on December 7.
“Bye, mommy.” “I love you forever and ever,” the 25-year-old said on Instagram, according to People. “You are the most beautiful woman on the planet… thank you for teaching me everything I know.” I’ll see you in my dreams and feel your presence in my heart.”
Keisha and Forest, now 62, met on the set of Blown Away in 1994 and married in 1996. Along with True, the pair received daughter Sonnet, 27, and reared her older daughter Autumn, 32, as well as his son Ocean, 33, from prior marriages.
The actor filed for divorce in 2018 and cited irreconcilable differences as the basis for the breakup.
In addition to her 15-year career as a model, Keisha appeared in the 2004 film Proud and executive produced the 2008 documentary Kassim the Dream about boxer Kassim “The Dream” Ouma.
