This April, Houston Will Host the McDonald’s All-American Games

McDonald's All American Games

It’s official: the McDonald’s All American Games will return to Clutch City this April, with the next generation of high school basketball greats slated to compete on April 2 at the Toyota Center in Houston.

Last March, the 2023 class left it all on the court, as spectators witnessed the highest scoring ladies’ game in history and a boys’ clash that went down to the wire. It’s time to start again with a new batch of all-stars when the best 48 high school basketball players hit the court in April.

The McDonald’s All American Games Selection Committee has also revealed the 724 girls and boys basketball players that have been nominated to compete at the Games in April. This class of candidates competes for a position among high school basketball’s finest, with names such as Candace Parker, Trae Young, Caitlin Clark, Jayson Tatum, Angel Reese, Kevin Durant, Breanna Stewart, and many others.

This year’s nominees represent 43 states and the District of Columbia. Texas led the group with 69 nominations, followed by California (66) and Florida (64). A high school coach, athletic director, principal, or member of the McDonald’s All American Games Selection Committee recommended players based on these criterion. “This moment is really a culmination of the hard work that each of these athletes have put into this game – all those long hours on the court, in the gym, and in the classroom,” said Joe Wootten, Chairman of the McDonald’s All American Games Selection Committee. “My father, Morgan Wootten, co-founded this game over four decades ago, providing a national platform for high school athletes to demonstrate their abilities on the grandest stage. It means a lot to me and my family to carry on his legacy and provide athletes this particular opportunity to shine.”

The McDonald’s All American Games Selection Committee, which consists of some of the nation’s most renowned high school analysts, prep scouts, journalists, and basketball coaches, will shortly restrict the list of candidates to the final 48 players chosen to the Games’ final roster. The top 24 girls and boys will be unveiled on NBA Today on Tuesday, January 24 from 3-4 p.m. ET, and will be released throughout ESPN’s numerous social and digital channels.

“Having the Games here in Houston last March was so special – it was an experience to remember as fans were treated to two amazing games between some of the best in high school basketball,” stated Jonathan Miles, owner/operator of McDonald’s in Houston. “I can’t wait for Toyota Center to be rocking again as the newest class of McDonald’s All Americans take the court in April.”
