Winter plans for the royal family, including King Charles and the Prince and Princess of Wales, are always jam-packed.
The royal family members are often out and about on official engagements, come rain or shine, and while we’re sure they like meeting and greeting the public, it might be detrimental to their health – especially because they encounter so many people on a regular basis.
“The viruses that cause colds or flu spread more easily when we’re constantly in close contact with other people,” adds Claire Nevinson, Superintendent Pharmacist at Boots.
“A virus can also survive on hands and surfaces for about 24 hours and can be transmitted through handshakes and other forms of contact, so interacting with lots of people daily can increase the risk of infection,” says Claire.
The royals’ habit of shaking hands and even hugging persons they meet may enhance their chances of being ill.
The fact that many royals go on walkabouts in the cold weather is another cause for concern. “You may want to avoid spending time outside in the cold if you aren’t feeling well, and if you have more severe cold symptoms, such as a fever, chest congestion, or a cough, being out in the cold may delay or worsen your recovery.”
While the royals have a stylish coat collection, staying warm is essential if they want to stay fit and well over the holiday season, with Claire emphasizing the necessity of wearing our woollies this season.
“Even if you are well and you choose to go out in the cold it’s generally advised to wrap up warm, by wearing lots of layers and clothes made from cotton, wool or fleecy fibres as these are particularly good at helping to maintain body heat.”
Because King Charles, Queen Camilla, and Princess Anne are all over 65, avoiding the flu or a cold is very crucial.
“People in this age bracket are more likely to develop potentially serious complications from flu,” according to Claire.
