Fans are expressing their best wishes to Carrie Bernans.
The stuntwoman, who has starred in Marvel films such as Black Panther and Avengers: Endgame, was hospitalized on New Year’s Day after being injured in a hit-and-run in New York.
“Please keep Carrie in your thoughts and prayers,” her mother Patricia Lee posted on Carrie’s Instagram on Jan. 1, accompanying photographs of her injuries. “She’s in a lot of pain, but she’s healing.” She was engaged in a distressing occurrence in NYC in which a man in his early 40s was attempting to flee a hit-and-run and crashed into many automobiles before colliding with a food stall near where she and a buddy were strolling. It eventually knocked her out and pinned her under the stand. She was completely oblivious of what was going on.”
Patricia stated that Carrie had “a few broken bones, fractures, & chipped teeth” and had recently undergone surgery. The 29-year-old’s mother, on the other hand, is “thanking God that she’s alive.”
“This setback hasn’t deterred her belief that something remarkable is still being crafted by God,” she said. “Despite the injuries she sustained in a hit-and-run collision in New York City, she is filled with hope and faith in the unfolding of a beautiful new chapter.” Please remember her in your thoughts and prayers as she works her way back to health and new beginnings.”
A spokesperson for the New York Police Department’s Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Public Information told E! News that in the early hours of New Year’s Day, a 44-year-old male had a physical altercation with a 34-year-old female inside a black Mercedes sedan and that he drove away when officers on foot trying to deescalate the situation told him to park the car.
“The male failed to obey the officers’ orders and fled westbound on 33rd Street before making a right turn onto 7th Avenue counter flow to traffic,” a representative for the DCPI said. “The Mercedes then turned onto westbound West 34th Street where he mounted the sidewalk and began traveling westbound.”
“The male then struck a food cart and two 39-year-old female pedestrians, a 31-year-old female pedestrian, and a 29-year-old female pedestrian,” the spokesperson stated. “The pedestrians were transported in stable condition to NYC Health & Hospitals/Bellevue.”
And they weren’t the only ones who were hit by his car.
“The Mercedes then reentered the roadway on west 34th Street where it mounted the curb onto the sidewalk again after passing 8th Avenue and struck two on-duty NYPD police officers,” said a representative for the department. “The Mercedes then struck two unoccupied parked vehicles before striking a 2022 Toyota Camry in the roadway.”
“Officers were then able to remove the operator and place him into custody,” said the spokeswoman. “The officers were transported in stable condition to a local hospital.” The Mercedes’ 34-year-old female passenger was taken to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition. “The investigation is still ongoing.”
