Ricky Rubio Rejoins Barcelona on a Contract Till The End of The Season

Following the announcement that he would be retiring from the National Basketball Association after a 12-year career, Ricky Rubio signed a short-term contract with Barcelona on Tuesday.

Rubio, who is 33 years old and had taken a break from playing in order to address difficulties related to his mental health, has agreed to a contract that will last for the remainder of this season. A statement from Barcelona stated that the guard will “return when he is ready.”

The Minnesota Timberwolves selected Rubio in the first round of the 2009 NBA Draft; however, he chose to remain in Spain and play for Barcelona for two seasons before making the transition to the National Basketball Association.

The Catalan squad stated that the Spaniard had a week of training with Barcelona before opting to sign the new deal. The training session took place last week.

“This agreement depends on the player’s progress as he finds himself in the final stages of his recovery,” according to the organization. “Ricky Rubio’s return to competition will come when the player himself decides the time is right.”

As a hoops prodigy who was just 14 years old at the time, Rubio has been on the world basketball scene ever since he was a youngster. He garnered the attention of scouts and fans for the first time. In 2008, he was awarded a silver medal in the Olympic Games, and in 2012, he was awarded a bronze medal. In 2019, he was voted the Most Valuable Player of the FIBA World Cup.
