Busy Philipps revealed she saw her oldest kid Birdie have a seizure when the 15-year-old was at school in Sweden over FaceTime: “It was really awful seeing it on a screen.”
Busy Philipps is still dealing with the aftermath of a family issue.
The Cougar Town actress said that her 15-year-old daughter Birdie, whom she shares with former husband Marc Silverstein, had a seizure while at school in Sweden. And, according to Busy, she observed the entire thing from the other side of the planet over FaceTime.
“They’d gone to the movies in Stockholm,” the 44-year-old said on the December 13 episode of her Busy Philipps is Doing Her Best podcast, noting that the theater Birdie attended was luckily “two minutes from the children’s hospital.”
Busy stated in the crowd that Birdie “started choking and throwing up.” The teen’s companion acted quickly, phoning both local paramedics and Birdie’s family in the United States for assistance.
“I heard Marc screaming for me and I was like, ‘What does this f–king guy want now?'” Busy recalled how she learned about the news. “I went upstairs, but when I heard his voice, I knew something was wrong.” ‘It’s Birdie, it’s Birdie,’ he just said. She had yet another seizure. “The paramedics are on their way.”
The Dawson’s Creek star recalled seeing medics treat Birdie over the phone in real time as a “terrifying” event.
“Her friend who was with her, she was holding the phone,” Busy said. “You could see everything that was going on.” It was simply so strange.”
Busy’s most sad moment was seeing Birdie “reaching toward the camera and just like, calling out for me.” Simply repeating, “Mama. Mama. Mama.” Where have you gone? Mama.'”
“I was literally Googling private planes,” confessed the former Busy Tonight presenter. “‘How do I not know anyone with an f–king private plane?'” I got to hang around with more sophisticated folks. Is Taylor Swift willing to fly me to Sweden right now? “Who has heard of Taylor Swift?”
Birdie, thankfully, recovered from her medical trauma. “Birdie is fine,” Busy captioned an Instagram photo from the hospital on December 13th. I’m all right. We’re all going to be OK.”
“But it’s been a time,” she continued. “And a year.”
After all, Busy has had a similar experience in the past. According to the mother-of-two, who also has a 10-year-old daughter with Marc, Birdie had her first seizure while filming the forthcoming Mean Girls musical.
“Obviously, I couldn’t leave set,” she explained, adding that Marc had reacted to the call and arrived “at the same time as the paramedics, so he had seen her in this similar sort of thing before.”
Busy said, “It was really awful seeing it on a screen, being in a different country across an ocean.”
