Bradley Cooper revealed his unexpected introduction to Maestro co-star Carey Mulligan, which sent them to the hospital.
Bradley said Carey was “not okay” when they discussed how they met on the Graham Norton Show.
While researching for Maestro, the A Star Is Born actor visited Carey in a one-woman performance and found her in anguish backstage.
“She was prone – it was a small theater so there wasn’t even a room, it was just a curtain, and she was prone because one of the sets had hit her in the top of the head halfway through the play” , Bradley said.
After hearing about the event, couch guests Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, and Daniel Kaluuya seemed stunned. Were they even more astonished when Carey continued the act despite a possibly catastrophic head injury?
Carey verified the tale. “Maybe about half an hour before the end I got hit quite badly, but I carried on because no one saw it” , said. “It was in the black out.”
Carey recognized her injuries after the play, causing her to cry. “I thought I was really a goner, you get it in your head with a head injury that’s it”, she said, noting that the director tried to calm her down until someone told them Bradley Cooper had walked onstage.
She said, “He came in and looked me in the eye and went ‘you’re not alright'” before taking them to the ER. She laughed, “the nurse was delighted.”
This was the Maestro co-stars’ first meeting, a memorable introduction.
Bryce noted that Bradley has taken A-List actresses to the hospital before.
“Did you bring Brooke Shields to the hospital as well?” she questioned, which the Hangover star verified.
“Don’t stay near me” he joked.
Fans around the world were worried about Brooke Shields after her grand mal seizure in November 2023, and Bradley Cooper was in the ambulance with her.
Finally, Bradley explained how he helped her in the situation.
“We’re neighbors in New York and it was lunch time and I remember I put sausages on the grill” , he said. In the kitchen, his friend told him Brooke had fallen at a restaurant across the street, prompting him to investigate.
“Luckily, I live across the street from the police precinct and they recognized me so I was able to go in,” he said. We got into the ambulance and tried to find the hospital. It was wild.”
