Kelly Clarkson discussed her family life during a relatable segment on her award-winning show, The Kelly Clarkson Show.
During Thursday’s program, the American Idol star discussed fussy eaters with Chrissy Teigen and restaurateur David Chang, admitting that she struggles to get her seven-year-old son Remington to eat veggies.
Kelly went so far as to add that she frequently sends her son to bed hungry because of the continual conflict at dinnertime. I have to sneak it in, into a cup that is colorful, that you can’t tell what the color is,” she said of her efforts to get her kid to eat properly.
“And that’s how I slip it in, like juice from a smoothie. He won’t do it. He will sniff it and say, ‘This is a vegetable.’ And he is adamantly against it. I need to send him to bed hungry.”
Kelly felt better about David’s struggle to convince his children to eat veggies, telling him, “It makes me feel better that you’re an actual chef.”
Chrissy, who has been quite vocal about her own issues with her five-year-old son Mile’s veggie consumption, said, “I absolutely follow instructions. I said before that Miles does not eat veggies. I mean, not a carrot stick. “It’s like a big fight with him.”
Charlotte Stirling-Reed, The Baby & Child Nutritionist at The Baby Show, discussed children’s eating habits with HELLO!, stating that fussy eating is not always a result of misbehavior.
“Sometimes it’s them just searching for autonomy or independence, which is why we see it a lot in toddlerhood” , she went on to say.
“It can be difficult, but it’s better to stick to what you serve on a regular basis while still giving children the freedom to avoid items if they wish during mealtimes.
“Simply saying: ‘That’s ok you don’t have to eat it,’ can actually really help.”
In the words of Charlotte: “Quite often this is all kids are looking for and it will allow them to be eventually happy to explore more – especially if they see you exploring a variety of foods at home too!”
