  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsps ginger
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk, low fat
  • 1 oz canola oil
  • 1 oz applesauce
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 medium egg

Directions

  • Combine flour, spices and baking soda in small bowl.
  • Lightly beat egg. In large bowl, stir together sugar, buttermilk, oil, applesauce, molasses and egg.
  • Add flour mix to wet ingredients and stir well.
  • Bake for 25 minutes at 350 °F (175 °C).
  • Cut into 4x4 = 16 squares.
