Rob Lowe Remembers Getting Terribly Hurt At A Dance Audition for ‘Footloose’

Rob Lowe Audition for Footloose led to a memorable and traumatic audition for him

Rob Lowe recounted the story of his terrible dance audition for the 1984 film musical Footloose during an interview on the podcast “Six Degrees With Kevin Bacon,” which is hosted by Kevin Bacon. The film is renowned for Bacon’s performance as Ren McCormack, which was a career-defining role that propelled him to popularity. Bacon is currently 65 years old.

Rob is thinking back that it’s one of the most memorable auditions he ever had as a young actor, yet it was also one of the most traumatic.

To add insult to injury, I believe it was to a song by Styx, of all things. According to Lowe’s recollection, the conclusion of the dance consisted of a knee slide across the floor. I then fell to my knees and slid across the floor into a lineup that included Sherry Lansing, who had previously served as the CEO of Paramount Pictures, Dean Pitchford, who was a screenwriter, and Craig Zadan, who was a producer.

During his explanation, Lowe stated that the dancing technique was responsible for his knee “exploding,” and he was transported on a stretcher. There was a loud exclamation from the performer. “Pop. ” They also transport me on a stretcher as they remove me off the soundstage.

He went on to say, “Craig Zadan and the producers, who were friends of mine and were very supportive of me doing this movie, came up to me and said, ‘Hey man, it’s cool.'” At the end of the day, we came to the conclusion that we would just forward with the hiring of a dancer for the role.

Following that, Lowe addressed Bacon by stating, “A week later they employ you,” and he recalls thinking, “Goddamn these people! That is a genuine performer!'” On the other hand, Bacon responded, “Well, that is a great Hollywood story.”
