The NFL announced Thursday that four teams (Bears, Vikings, Jaguars, and Panthers) would give up a home game in 2024 in favor of hosting a game in Europe.
The Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, and Jacksonville Jaguars will all host games in London, while the Carolina Panthers will host one in Munich. The opponents and dates, as well as the remainder of the NFL season, will be released in the spring.
The NFL will not play in Mexico City owing to renovations at the Estadio Azteca. The league has earlier confirmed a 2024 game at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil. The NFL has not announced either club for the clash.
The Bears and Vikings will both play at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while the Jaguars will return to Wembley Stadium as part of their continuous commitment to playing in the UK. The Panthers’ matchup in Munich will take place at Allianz Arena.
“Taking our game to more fans around the world is a major priority for the league and its 32 teams, and we are delighted to be returning to London and Munich in 2024,” said Peter O’Reilly, the NFL’s executive vice president of club business, league events, and international, in a statement.
When the NFL transitioned to a 17-game regular season in 2021, it devised a schedule formula that alternated nine and eight home games between NFC and AFC clubs annually. Any team in the conference with nine home games is eligible to host an international match. The Jaguars, who play in the AFC, have a separate arrangement to hold home games in London.
Last year, NFL owners agreed to boost the number of yearly overseas games to eight, beginning with the 2025 season.
The Bears, Vikings, and Jaguars all hold foreign marketing rights in the United Kingdom under the NFL’s global market program, while the Panthers retain rights in Germany.
