Diet and Exercise Routine Revealed by Rapper DDG

DDG is well-known as a rapper and content producer, but his life almost followed a different path. “Boxing is really my first love,” he explains. “If I wasn’t making music… I would be a boxer.” Unfortunately, a childhood shoulder injury “crushed” that desire, but boxing remains an important component of the artist’s training regimen, as he shows in a new Gym & Fridge video.

DDG’s refrigerator is stocked with water, juice, and fruit, but never raw meat. In fact, there isn’t much that involves cooking at all. “I don’t have anything in my fridge that requires ingredients or any instructions,” he said.

When it comes to munchies, DDG like crunchy seaweed and “can’t live without fruit,” always having strawberries, pineapple, and his “all-time favorite,” plums on hand. He does, however, have a weakness for Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. And, while he’s an expert at preparing eggs and eats them most mornings, he’ll frequently forego cooking in the afternoons in favor of assembling—or dining out.

Boxing, like his other favorite sport, basketball, is one of his go-to aerobic exercises. “It’s really about getting endurance,” he says. “Breathing control is essential, especially at festivals.” I enjoy jumping around and interacting with others. I’m not one of those performers that just walks around the stage… I need to work out in order to accomplish that comfortably.”

DDG exercises out every other day when he isn’t traveling, generally first thing in the morning. When he’s on tour, he’ll attempt to work out at the hotel gym as often as possible—or even perform bodyweight exercises on the bus. “You don’t really need machines or anything like that,” he said.

While he emphasizes biceps, triceps, and chest in his workouts, DDG despises leg day and is outspoken about emphasizing his vanity muscles.

“I don’t want to be the strongest man in the world,” he tells me, “but I do want to be the best looking.”
